Don’t Panic, Sis — It’s Just a Letter from the IRS
“Don’t Panic, Sis — It’s Just a Letter from the IRS” - Nicolette Jackson
You opened the mailbox and saw it—that envelope.
The return address says Internal Revenue Service and suddenly, your stomach drops.
Don’t panic. Don’t spiral.
Let me walk you through what it really means, what it doesn’t, and what you should do next (spoiler: it involves calling your favorite tax pro—me 😉).

With that being said, here is what it really means when you receive an IRS letter in the mail! 👊🏽
1: What the IRS Doesn’t Do
Let’s clear up the myths first because misinformation spreads faster than a TikTok dance. The IRS doesn’t text, DM, or email you out the blue. They’re not calling you saying you’ll get arrested unless you pay immediately. They definitely don’t accept Zelle, CashApp, or Apple Pay for back taxes. If you get a message like that? It’s a scam, boo. Block it and keep it movin’.
2: What They Do....Do
Here’s how the IRS actually communicates: They send official letters through the mail first. Always. Those letters usually include a letter number like CP504, LTR1058, or LT11. They give you a specific deadline to respond or take action. Those letter codes? They're not random—they actually tell us what the issue is and what stage it’s in. That’s where I come in.
3: What You Might Be Feeling (and That’s Okay)
Listen—getting a letter from the IRS is unsettling. You might feel:
😩 Confused by all the legal language
😬 Nervous about how much you might owe
😱 Afraid you’re in some kind of trouble
Breathe. You’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure this out by yourself.
4: What You Should Actually Do
Here’s your real-deal next steps:
1.Open the letter (don’t leave it in the junk drawer, sis).
2.Take a picture or scan it.
3.Send it to your tax pro (me!) so we can decode it together.
Most IRS letters are just notices or requests for info. Some may say you owe, some may just need verification. Either way, we won’t know until we look.
